Erin Classen made history last weekend, being the youngest player ever to win the WA Open at the age of 14. Classen who was recently selected by Squash Australia to attend the World Junior Championships in July has been training hard and displayed great maturity to win her first WA Open Title defeating Leigh-Anne Kaye 15-10, 15-10, 13-15, 15-11.
Mike Corren won his eighth WA Open Title and is on his way to equaling the 9 year record held by Dean Williams. Corren defeated his training partner Dave Ilich 11-6, 11-4, 11-2.
The event was held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Cambridge Squash Centre where so many past champions have come from including Dean Williams, Chris Van Nierop, Lorraine Collins, Bob Meuleman, Helen Collins, Deb Majteles, Sue Hillier (Carter) and most recently Mike Corren.
